Lane Fusilier, Philpott Church, Hamilton, ON

Lane was born to a Cajun dad and a Welsh mum in Southeast Texas. Although Lane grew up in a fervently Christian faith, he left the faith when he entered MIT to study biology. He went on to graduate from the University of Texas in psychology and from Dallas Theological Seminary in Old Testament. In 2004 received his D.Min.degree. He met Deborah Wootton and they married, moved to Waco, Texas to launch a church, and pastored that church for 21 years. All four of their children were born in Waco. Lane and Debi moved to Hamilton in 1999 to join the staff of Philpott Memorial Church (AGC). In 2004, he helped launch the TrueCity movement (www.TrueCity.ca), a group of congregations committed to the good of the city. About 25 churches are active participants. Philpott Church's role, in particular, has been to embrace and aid refugees and immigrants new to Hamilton. Lane has also mentored 16 church planters, all affiliated with TrueCity, Hamilton. After 40 years of marriage, Debi was diagnosed with ovarian cancer April 5, 2016. In spite of much prayer and aggressive medical treatment, she went Home April 23, 2017. She is greatly missed by Lane, the family, hundreds of friends in Texas, Florida and Hamilton, as well as Philpott Church.

Today, Calvary is a diverse multi-cultural congregation made up of people from almost every continent. Daniel grew up in a pastor's home. His father, Ernest, as a Jewish teenager, was rescued from Nazi Germany by Kindertransport on the eve of World War 2. Ernest came to Christ in England, and later moved to Canada where he married. Daniel's parents introduced him to  Jesus. When Daniel is not preaching, he enjoys construction projects with his wife, Wendy. (Not surprising as they met at the hardware store where they both worked as teenagers!)

David Elliott, Alta Vista Baptist Church, Ottawa

Week 9: August 25 - September 1

David ElliottRev. David Elliott sensed God's call to pastoral ministry while serving as a pastoral intern at his home church, Alta Vista Baptist Church, in the summer of 1983. Since that time David has had the privilege of pastoring four congregations. 35 years later, the Lord recently opened a unique opportunity for him to return to Ottawa and pastor his home church; the place where he was savd, baptized, discipled and called into pastoral ministry. He believes passionately in the local church and champions twin truths; living things grow and growing things change. David has been spoiled by the Lord with his incredible wife, Lisa, and four godly children (three on earth and one  in heaven). He is also thankful for two beautiful grandsons.
