Note: If you have small children (ages 18 months to completed grade 5) be sure to take them to their program location 15 minutes prior to the service beginning.

Here are our teachers for Summer Camp 2023

Bill Thornton

Week 1: July 1-8

Bill Thornton grew up in Oakville where he surrendered his life to Christ as a teenager. He planned to be a high school teacher but God had other plans. He has served full time in various pastoral roles and is currently the senior pastor at Flamborough Baptist Church, Waterdown, ON. He also volunteers as a chaplain with the Hamilton Police Services. Bill loves spending time with his wife Heather and his ever expanding family.

Louis Scheepers

Week 2: July 8-15

Louis Scheepers is a South African now living in Canada. He obtained his Masters of Divinity from the University of Pretoria and has served as Youth Pastor, Worship Pastor, Lead Pastor and Church planter for the past 16 years. With a desire to reach people far from Jesus, he uses a practical and relevant approach in his ministry and preaching. Their family moved from Cape Town, South Africa to Newmarket, Ontario, in October 2021 after accepting the call as Lead Pastor of Grace Church. Louis and Yolandi have been married for 12 years; they have two girls, Abigail (4) and Annabelle (1), and an Italian Greyhound that doesn’t like the snow.

Terry Sanderson

Week 3: July 15-22

Terry Sanderson was raised on a dairy farm in Southwestern Ontario. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario, he received a Masters of Theology Degree from Dallas Theological Seminary with a major in Pastoral Ministry. He served 20 years in pastoral ministry at North Park Community Church in London. In 2009 he moved to the suburbs of St. Louis, MO to serve as the Lead Pastor of Calvary Church. In 2022, he returned to Canada as Lead Pastor at Bayview Glen Alliance Church in Thornhill. Terry is married to Chantelle and they have three daughters – Jenna, Jadyn and Jovanna.

Scott Stein

Week 4: July 22-29

Scott Stein is a former pastor and the Founder of Prepared to Answer. For the past 10 years he has worked through Prepared to Answer, serving local churches through training in the areas of apologetics and worldview formation. Prepared to Answer’s mission is to help future generations of Christians possess a biblically grounded and confident faith. In short, to teach a new generation to think like Jesus. Scott is married to Charlene, and they live with their two children in Exeter, Ontario.

Rick Reed

Week 5: July 29 – August 5

Rick Reed joined Heritage College & Seminary on January 1, 2013 as President after serving for fourteen years as Senior Pastor at the Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa. At Heritage, Rick teaches in the areas of preaching and pastoral theology. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Biola University, Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Dr. Reed is committed to using Scripture and his ministry experience to glorify God in the training and equipping of men and women for life and ministry. Rick is married to Linda who directs the Heritage Centre for Women in Ministry and holds Doctor of Education degree from Southern Seminary. The Reeds have three grown children.

Norm Millar

Week 6: August 5-12

Norm Millar is the Senior Pastor at Redemption Bible Chapel, London, ON. Before going into ministry, Norm had an 18-year career in computer software design and project management. Norm obtained his M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary in Los Angeles in 1992. In 2000, he, along with 30 others, planted Redemption Church. Norm graduated in May 2017 with his D.Min. from Southern Seminary. Norm is married to Cindy and they have five children and 16 grandchildren.

Matthew Naismith

Week 7: August 12-19

Matthew is passionate about encouraging and equipping followers of Jesus to saturate their communities with the gospel in the places where they live, learn, work and play. Matthew currently works with NAMB Canada as a Church Planting Catalyst in Southwestern Ontario and as a Strategist for Collegiate Ministry for Eastern Canada. Prior to working with NAMB, Matthew was one of the founding pastors of Church of the City in Guelph, Ontario, a church desiring to see its community look more like heaven so that every person has a relationship with Jesus. Matthew is married to Andrea and they have three boys: Nixon, Cade and Thando.

Ed Fontaine

Week 8: August 19-26

Dr. Ed Fontaine is the lead pastor at Springvale Church in Stouffville ON. Ed has his BA, Masters of Theology (ThM) and a Doctorate (DMin). He served as an Associate Pastor for five years in Huntsville before he was Lead Pastor for 16 years in Strathroy, ON. Ed is now in his 11th year at Springvale.

Ed is a visionary leader who gets excited about seeing growth and development in his staff. He is very hands-on and comes alongside in his approach to leading his team. Ed’s preaching style is current and relevant and frequently peppered with challenges to his congregation to keep pressing toward a higher goal and never to settle for just his word on the matter but to dig deeper and find out for themselves.

Ed and his wife Crystal have been blessed to raise 3 great young men, Dallas, Denver and Brett and have two wonderful daughters in law, Rachael and Kendal. They are so pleased to get to spend as much time as possible with their 4 out of province grandchildren. 

Daniel Winter

Week 9: August 26 – September 2

Daniel Winter is the senior pastor at Calvary Church Toronto (AGC) where he has served for the past 8 years. Daniel has a heart for the inner city. Calvary Church is a 95-year-old inner-city church in Toronto located across the street from a busy subway and TTC bus stop. Today, it is a diverse multicultural congregation of people from almost every continent. The church’s campus includes a 14-story long-term care facility, an adjoining apartment building for seniors, and a brand-new children’s ministry centre. Daniel’s wife Wendy is on staff as the Children’s Ministry Director and Church Volunteer Coordinator. Calvary’s largest demographic is children 12 and under.

Daniel has a rich godly heritage. His father, as a Jewish teenager, was rescued from Nazi Germany by Kindertransport on the eve of World War 2. Major Ian Thomas, the founder of Capernwray, led Daniel’s dad, Ernest, to Christ. Ernest went on to be an evangelist and pastor. Daniel has been married to Wendy for 30 years and they have three children: Joshua (25), Matthew (23), and Rebecca (12).
